Does my cycle length and day of ovulation hinder conception?

I have a 35 day cycle and ovulated on day 21 of my cycle which left me with a 14 day luteal phase...I have heard that when it takes this long to ovulate..my uterine lining is older and less likely to invite implantation. Is this true? I got a positive ovulation test last month on CD 20 and we had sex all that week with no luck....could this be why?
